The Laser Hair Centre Inc. uses state-of-the-art Diode "LightSheer" technology for hair removal treatments. "LightSheer" hair removal lasers are high powered pulsed Diode
array systems that are able to provide permanent hair reduction. The "LightSheer" has
a special sapphire contact-cooling tip that protects the skin, while bringing the laser energy
safely through the skin to the hair root. The distinctive blending of features allows the
treatment of patients of all skin types with uncompromising safety and efficacy.
Hair Growth Stages
Hair's active growth phase is called anagen. During this stage, the hair is highly pigmented.
The laser treats hair during this stage most effectively. Catagen is the regression phase of hair
growth. The hair is still present, but the bulb of the hair stops growing and the follicle
degenerates due to the collapse of the papilla, which feeds the hair. Telogen is the stage
where the hair is shed and the follicle rests until stimulated to begin a new growing cycle.
How Lasers Work
Lasers work by producing a precise beam of light. The color of the light determines what
that particular laser affects. The Diode Laser works by seeking out the pigment found in the
hair follicle. Because laser treats hair most effectively during the anagen stage, when the hair
is highly pigmented, more than one treatment is usually required. The length of the laser
sessions may be a few seconds to a few hours, depending on the area being treated. The
sensation on the skin varies in intensity according to the density and coarseness of the hair.
The more hair that is present, the hotter the sensation. In some cases, topical freezing cream
may be recommended.
Recovery
Although the appearance of the treated area varies, redness and swelling around the area
treated is the most common reaction and usually subsides within 20 minutes to 2 hours.
Most patients return to normal activity right away.
